Bilston bag Five

                                      Midland Football League Div 1⚽

Bilston Town Community 5 Paget Rangers 2

Played at Queen Street Stadium, Bilston

This was the stuff to make you forget it was a freezing afternoon ; it was terrific !

The hosts were straight into their stride leading to some crunching(but fair) tackles, giving the visitors little time in possession. It seemed only a matter of time before Town scored, such was their superiority but on 35 minutes it was the visitors who took the lead with their first effort on goal ; an innocuous-looking cross was inadvertantly headed into the path of the opposition player who duly banged it into the onion bag⚽. Town didn't have to wait too long for an equaliser, about 10 minutes in fact, when they were awarded a penalty which was due reward for their enterprising play⚽.

The second half was only minutes old when Town were awarded a second penalty which was duly despatched⚽. Rangers had their moments but the Town defence was in no mood to give them anything, snapping into the tackle at the first sign of danger. The visitors were in danger of being overwhelmed as Town took control but still managed to reduce the arrears⚽ but further goals from Town were added, the best of them being the fifth⚽.

Rangers were unlucky to meet a team on top of their game on the day.

Casuals and Stone share the spoils.

                                  Midland Football League Premier Div

                                                                                                                     Played at Brinsford Stadium

Wolves Casuals 0  Stone Old Alleynians 0

I doubt management or players of both sides would object to my opinion of this being a bitty, scrappy game. Things were not helped by a brisk wind. As the score suggests, chances were at a premium, effort was not, as both sides tried their best.

Additional comment ; I must mention the referee who did his best to share some banter with the players. All credit to him.

Apologies for such a brief report.

Worcester City continue winning ways.

                                 Midland Football League Premier Div⚽

Tividale 0  Worcester City 1

Following an upsurge in fortunes, City arrived at Packwood Road( with a decent following)   looking for a third win on the bounce after recent results at Market Drayton and Bewdley Town. New boss Cornes has really turned things around since his arrival 3 months ago.

Tividale were quickest out of the blocks, threatening in the first few minutes but it was the visitors who settled, took control and scored on 20 minutes when a corner on the right was met with a powerful header from the City skipper who rose head and shoulders above everyone. Following the restart, there were loud appeals for a penalty from home players, staff and fans alike but these were brushed these aside by the ref. The visitors were,by this time in full control of things and the hosts were under considerable pressure for long periods.

Tividale started the second half somewhat nervously and it took them a while to settle but they continued to send long looping balls upfield which were meat and drink for the visiting defence ; they did have their moments though as they improved through the half but never really looked like winning the game whereas the visitors did look like they could increase their advantage.

So, Tividale extend their poor run of results while City look to have turned the corner and are definitely on a upward curve.

Stallions held by Tipton Town

West Midlands Regional League Div 1⚽

Tipton Town  2  Saltley Stallions  2

Free-scoring table-toppers Saltley arrived at Tipton Sports Academy having lost just two league games this season but they were shocked after ten minutes when an innocent looking cross from the right looped over the defender and the Tipton number 9 beat the keeper with a cool finish⚽

The visitors look a good outfit with a passing game and are easy on the eye. They levelled on 25 minutes  when a low cross from the right behind the defence was tapped home at the far post⚽

Saltley were too often guilty of profligacy ; after playing their way into good positions many chances were wasted  and the  Tipton defence coped fairly well with most of the visitors attacks. That said, Saltley took the lead on 63 minutes⚽ with  some nice interplay  and looked to increase their lead but as before, the Town defence held. Town made a substitution to beef up their midfield and it paid dividends on 80 minutes with a well worked goal to level⚽

This was a good game. As previously stated Stallions look a good side but credit should also go to Town who were not overawed by the league leaders and gave a decent account of themselves.
