Dudley Town goal-fest.

Midland Football League Div 1                                    27/08/22

Dudley Town 6  Wolverhampton Sporting 0

Played at The Guardian Warehousing Arena

As the scoreline suggests, this was a pretty one-sided game, made much harder for the visitors having to play with 10 men for a large part of the game. There was no sign early on of the goal-fest to come as the visitors seemed to be holding the hosts at at bay but once they conceded the first, it was not too long before the floodgates opened.

To be fair, Dudley took full advantage of the opportunity afforded them and from the 30th minute, there was really no doubt about the outcome. Sporting tried but on the day they were up against a very hungry looking Dudley team.

Newcastle Town progress in the FA Cup

Emirates FA Cup  Extra Preliminary Round                6/8/2022

AFC Wulfrunians 1  Newcastle Town 2

It's hard to believe the FA Cup starts now, in August, but here we go again with Wulfrunians pitted against their NPL opponents.

The visitors looked a skilful outfit from the start, enjoying plenty of possession but it was nearly 20 minutes before they had a direct attempt and that being easily collected by the keeper. Wulfs had their moments but were finding it difficult to penetrate a well organised defence.

On 34 minutes the stalemate was broken when the visitors had a free kick and scored direct into the LH corner and this was how it stayed until the break.

The hosts came out with renewed vigour for the second half and it was their turn to enjoy considerable stretches of possession and on 65 minutes their efforts were repaid  when a cross from the left was bundled home.

The home side had a player sent off late in the game and the visitors took full advantage when a cross from the right was  dispatched with a powerful header, giving the home keeper no chance.

Gornal waiting for the title.

West Midlands Regional League  Div 1⚽

Gornal Athletic 2  FC Darlaston 0

Played at The Garden Walk Stadium, Gornal

This was a great game for neutral and supporter alike ; two fully committed sides really going for it. For the hosts a win was vital to keep their hopes of the championship alive while the visitors basically had only pride at stake.

Potential table-toppers Gornal were given a stern test by the visitors (number 10 being a constant thorn in the side to the home defence).

The game was in the balance until late in the second half when a penalty and a well-crafted  goal settled it ; Darlaston had used every ounce of energy by then and were visibly flagging.

Congratulations to the winners, Gornal who struck when it mattered most....near the end of the game. They now face an anxious wait for rivals Droitwich Spa to complete their fixtures.

Commiserations to the visitors who belied their lowly league standing with an outstanding display.

Dudley Town in command

                                      Midland Football League  Div 1⚽

Dudley Town 4  Ashby Ivanhoe 0

Played at Aspray Arena

Town started this game at breakneck speed and the visitors didn't know what had hit them. The scoring opened in the 6th minute as Danks put the home side ahead. Within two minutes they had a second scored by Lawley and the visitors were struggling to construct anything positive such was the hosts dominance and on 17 minutes things got a whole lot worse as Towns' number 11(?) despatched  a third.

By the half-hour the visitors were beginning to see a bit more possession but without really testing the keeper.

The second half was really just a reprise of the first with Ashby doing their best but with no end result and it was no surprise when Town added a fourth via number 16 Harry Crook, albeit from a misjudged back-pass.

Ashby can have no complaints about the result as on  the day Town were the better side.

An excellent game for the neutral.
