Saltley win in a shoot-out.

   10/05/2025

           ⚽West Midlands Regional League⚽

                  Premier Div League Cup

Pelsall Villa Colts 2  Saltley Stallions 2(0-4 after Penalties)

From the start, this looked to be a one-sided affair - a mismatch if you like, with, on the one hand a side who strutted around with an air of supreme confidence whilst their opponents were struggling to string two passes together and who persisted in hoofing the ball upfield to no-one in particular. So it was no surprise to anyone when Saltley took the lead with an extremely well-constructed goal on 15 minutes⚽. The surprise was Pelsall levelling 5 minutes later, albeit via a penalty⚽. Just before the break Saltley restored their superiority with a cracking effort from the left, the keeper making a valiant effort in getting his fingertips to it but unable to stop it⚽.

We were discussing what sort of half-time pep-talk would be required to rouse Pelsall from their apparent torpor ; whatever was said had an immediate effect as they tore into their opponents. It really was a remarkable turn-around and it paid big dividends on the hour mark when they equalised from a crowded goalmouth. Now it was Pelsall calling the tune and Saltley reverting to hoofing the ball anywhere.Towards the final ten minutes,Saltley seemed to regain some composure and had a couple of decent efforts thwarted so it was onto the dreaded penalties to  decide who accompanied the Cup home.

Unfortunately, the shoot-out was a bit of a damp squib with Pelsall missing their first three(two of them saved by the keeper who was one of the 'least tall' people on the pitch) and Saltley potting all four of theirs.

Racing Club dent Khalsa fight-back.

   ⚽Northern Premier League  Midlands Div

Sporting Khalsa 3  Racing Club Warwick 3

What a game ! What a way to finish the season ! This was certainly no 'end of season kick about', it had it all,end to end action, lots of goals and brilliant goalkeeping.

Racing showed from the start they were not here to go through the motions and were well up for it. The Khalsa goal had already been under some pressure when the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes via a soft header⚽. Before Khalsa could catch their breath, they were 2 down as the foward outran 2 defenders and smacked the ball in off the post⚽. Racing were soaking up everything Khalsa could throw at them and then breaking at speed only to be denied by some fine goalkeeping. That is, until the 29 minute when a superb volley gave the keeper no chance⚽. The game was being played at breakneck speed and more goals were definitely on the cards.

From the kick-off,Khalsa played the ball down the left where number 11cut in,beating 3 players to plant the ball in the right corner⚽. Khalsa were dominating play and it was no surprise when they added a third via number 6 who hit a superb volley into the top LH corner giving the keeper no chance⚽. Khalsa were rampant and were only denied more goals by some superb goalkeeping. Just as we were accepting a great come-back by Khalsa,Racing levelled in the 94th minute with a thunder-bastard volley⚽.

This was ,without doubt, the best game we have been to all season. It was terrific stuff from both sides.

Kewford Eagles no match for Oldbury Utd.

  19/04/2025

⚽West Midlands Regional League Div 1⚽

Oldbury Utd FC 3  Kewford Eagles 0

                                                                                      Played at Tipton Sports Academy

Oldbury didn't waste any time in taking charge of this game and would dominate possession for the greater part of the first half. That said, the visiting keeper was not unduly tested  and Kewford were very unlucky when,on 42 minutes they smacked the ball against the post, their first direct shot on goal, coming during a 10 minute purple patch prior to the break.

20 minutes after the break,Oldbury took the lead in rather fortunate circumstances, the defender,in attempting to stop a cross, diverted the ball past his own keeper⚽. Kewford were, by now, well under the cosh and it was no surprise when the hosts added a second on 75 minutes⚽, during  a goalmouth scramble. followed by a third just 10 minutes later⚽.

Oldbury were well worth their win having dominated for most of the game whilst Kewford cannot really have any complaints, having been beaten by the better team on the day.

Gutsy Wednesfield beaten.

            ⚽Midland Football League Div 1⚽

                                                                              Played at The Cottage Ground,Wednesfield

Wednesfield FC 0  Gornal Athletic 3

The first half was basically a nightmare for the home side with defenders unable to clear their lines on numerous occasions, a perfect example being the second goal on 22 minutes ; the keeper failed to control a bouncing back-pass ,tried to dribble the ball around the attacker and managed to trip him, result being a penalty. Gornal were passing the ball much better than their opponents but too often there wasn't an end product.

Wednesfield were much improved after the break and at least managed some shots on goal, one of which, ironically led to them fall further behind on 70 minutes ; the keeper saved an attempt, fed the ball out to the left and three passes later the ball was in the net - game over.

Gornal deserved their win, being much better defensively. Wednesfield have to be admired for their 'never-say-die' attitude, they keep going, whatever the score.
