Bilston Town leave it late but take the points.

                         Midland Football League Div 1⚽

Bilston Town 2  Stapenhill 1

Bilston deserved their win for their second-half performance. They are always roared on by a noisy band of supporters and today was no exception.

The early exchanges were nothing to write home about with the hosts having the lions share of what attacking play there was. For a team in the lower reaches of the division, the visitors showed remarkable resilience to everything Bilston could throw at them and on 20 minutes they took the lead ; a corner was whipped over beyond the far post and was headed down and smashed into the roof of the net(missed the players name)💥⚽. They continued looking dangerous when transitioning and there were a few wobbles in the home defence.

Half-time saw us enjoying a coffee in the clubhouse and a chat to a couple of fellas, one of which told us he travels from Coventry to watch Bilston games, home and away !

Following the break, Bilston upped the ante but,as previously, struggled to break down a well organised, resolute defence. Something had to give and on 82 minutes the hosts were awarded a penalty, duly dispatched by number 5 Spragg(I think)💥⚽. It was no more than they deserved for their energetic, high tempo display and the icing on the cake was a winning goal in the 90th minute from number 11💥⚽.

Town were full value for the 3 points while Stapenhill couldn't maintain their early vigour.

One downside of the game was one of the Bilston players suffered a broken ankle and best wishes for a speedy recovery to him.
