AFC Wolverhampton City and Hanley Town serve up a cracker.

 28/02/2026

       ⚽Midland Football League Premier Div⚽

AFC Wolverhampton City 2  Hanley Town 2

AFC made the perfect start in this battle of 4th against 2nd,scoring after 8 minutes⚽. Town were made to look second-best for long periods as the hosts pressured them constantly and their plan of sending long balls up to their number 9 never really took off.

AFC repeated their first-half trick of scoring early when their number 3 scored 6 minutes  after the break⚽. Town won a penalty on 80 minutes, despatched it and found a second wind⚽ ; despite looking nothing like a second in the league team they somehow conjured up an equaliser 5 minutes later⚽.

Todays match was a belter. Two good sides really  going for it.AFC were the better side on the day and can feel a little unlucky to only get a point but credit to Town for never giving up.

Weather is the winner in AFC Wolverhampton and 1874 Northwich draw.

 21/02/2026

               ⚽Midland Football League⚽

AFC Wolverhampton City 1   1874 Northwich 1

As would be expected from teams tied on points, there was little to separate these two with AFC possibly just shading it from an attacking point and this led to them taking the lead on 17 minutes from a corner headed in by number 9⚽. The game then settled into a bitty spectacle with lots of free-kicks which continued right through the second period with the visitors upping their game as AFC seemed to fade and on 80 minutes they levelled⚽. The final 10 minutes was probably the best of the game as both sides went for the winner but neither side was able to get it.

A draw was probably the correct result as neither side really did enough to win but the weather and a boggy pitch didn't help.

Sporting Khalsa on the up after a second half demolition job.

              ⚽Northern Premier League West⚽

Sporting Khalsa 3 Kidsgrove Athletic 1

The visitors took hold of this game from the off and it was no more than they deserved when they opened the scoring after 12 minutes⚽. Khalsa couldn't really get going and to be honest, Athletic seemed to deal quite comfortably with anything thrown at them, which wasn't much. The exception to this was a cracking effort from 20 yards which smacked off the crossbar.

Whatever was said at the break had an immediate effect as the hosts were now all over the visitors and got their rewards on 60 minutes from a relatively simple move ; a big goal-kick down the right wing followed by a juicy cross leading to a tap-in⚽. The same tactic brought a second goal 12 minutes later⚽ and third followed in added time following great work on the right⚽.

Khalsa could be forgiven their below par efforts in the first half because of a scintillating second-half display whilst Athletic were overwhelmed after the break.

Dudley Town earn the points.

24/01/2026

  ⚽Midland Football League Premier Division⚽

Dudley Town 2  AFC Wolverhampton City 1

AFC paid the price for a very poor first half display.

Town took the lead in the 1st minute via a comical goal. A lofted ball was seemingly under control by the defender when somehow it was in the back of the net⚽ ! On 20 minutes my voice note was 'AFC really need to wake up'. Aimless hoofs upfield, misplaced passes and a lack of urgency together handed the initiative to the hosts who,to be fair, found it relatively easy to deal with anything from the visitors who must have been waiting for half-time to regroup. On 40 minutes Town added a second and again basic defending was lacking⚽. The fear for the visitors was if they didn't buck up Town could well add a couple more.

The visitors were no better following the break until, that is, they were awarded a free kick on 70 minutes just outside the area, which was duly despatched⚽.Suddenly AFC were back in the game and looking the likelier of the two to score again as Towns rearguard found themselves increasingly under severe pressure. It was all the visitors now and but for some desperate defending they would have levelled but fair play to Town, they held on by their fingertips to register a good result.

Dudley deserved their win whereas AFC had only themselves to blame for their uncharacteristically below par first half display.
