AFC Wolverhampton City take it in a blood and thunder game.

22/11/2025

          Midland Football League Premier Div⚽

AFC Wolverhampton City 2  Coton Green 1

Pre kick-off, we had a nice chat with James Hill(ex AFC Wulfrunians), the guy responsible for organising the kids teams at AFC WC. they now have 13 teams through all age groups. Well done him and the club.

These two went at it hammer and tongue straight from the off, no PL tippy tappy rubbish here and on 10 minutes City took the lead. A few good passes down the RW, a decent cross and number 11 Luckman stuck his foot out to score⚽. The visitors always looked comfortable on the ball but it was noticeable there didnt seem to be too much of a threat regarding goal attempts. That said, they did equalise on 32 minutes via a headed goal from Number 10 James Henry⚽.

Within 5 minutes off the restart, City were reduced to 10 men. That left Coton with a numerical advantage they didn't seem to capitalise on ; numerous times they would foil a City attack and fail to gain from it. That reticence came back to bite them when on 80 minutes they also were reduced to 10. 5 minutes later  City broke from their area with a sweet pass down the left, a cross and number 9 was their to drive it home⚽.

This was a great watch. Fast football from 2 very good teams. Coton failed to use their advantage and paid the price while praise must be given to city for digging in when needed.

Bilston continue their fine league form.

 15/11/2025

            ⚽Midland Football League Div 1⚽

Bilston Town 2 Chelmsley Town 0

On a day when the weather played havoc with the fixtures, this was one of only two division 1 matches played(apparently there are old mine-shafts underneath the pitch which enables excellent drainage (as told to my mate today)). As a result, there was a sizeable crowd to view this excellent game.

The initial third of the game was relatively even with Bilston looking the more dangerous in front of goal whereas the visitors looked strongest in midfield but lacked a cutting edge where it mattered. On 42 minutes Bilston deservedly took the lead following sustained pressure and that's how it stayed until the break⚽.

Bilston continued the second half with sustained pressure and it seemed only a matter of time before they added to their talley ; on 70 minutes Carter chased a lost cause and received his just desserts as he forced a mix-up between defender and keeper and slotted home a fine goal from an acute angle⚽. The pressure very nearly resulted in another goal before Chelmsley enjoyed a final 10 or so minutes of pressure and with better finishing, could have had a couple themselves. That would have harsh on the hosts as they were clearly the superior team on the day.

Casuals move out of relegation places.

 8/11/2025

         ⚽North West Counties League⚽

Wolverhampton Casuals 3 Haughmond 0

In essence, this game could be viewed as a '6-pointer',with both teams occupying relegation spots. To be honest, apart from plenty of endeavour, the first half was nothing to write home about as the two well-matched sides cancelled each other out.

Following the break, Casuals upped their game considerably and reaped dividends when Poskitt scored on 53 minutes⚽. The way the hosts were playing, more goals had to come and it fell to Poskitt  on 66 minutes to increase their lead⚽. The visitors really were struggling to contain their hosts and Chilton put them out of their misery on 76 minutes⚽.

To be fair to the visitors, they often looked a better side than their league position suggests but they are seriously lacking any kind of cutting edge up front;Casuals,on the other hand, should be able to build on this demolition job now it has taken them out of the relegation places.

Khalsa undone by slick Avro.

 1/11/2025

Northern Premier League West Division

Sporting Khalsa 1  Avro 2

The early minutes were pretty even with no sign the visitors were such high-flyers and Khalsa rammed home this point when taking the lead in the tenth minute via Tilt who, it has to be said, could hardly miss from a wonderfully floated cross from the right from Landell. Scoring opportunities were at a premium but Avro always looked the more dangerous when they did manage to breach Khalsas' rearguard but the hosts seemed to  deal fairly comfortably with most of their efforts. That changed just before the break when the visitors rattled the hosts bar on 40 minutes and just before the whistle Salt was Johnny-on -the-spot to tap home the equaliser.

It seemed harsh words were dispatched in the away dressing-room at half-time as Avro upped their game considerably and Khalsa were under the cosh. The feeling was something had to give for the visitors and it  duly arrived on 87 minutes when Hawley rifled a cross-shot from the left into the right-hand corner. It was no more than they deserved for their enterprising second-half efforts. Khalsa did come close to a leveller but it was not to be. A torrential downpour in the final 10 minutes added to the spectacle.

This was a brilliant game to watch with fine performances from both sides ; Khalsa did nothing wrong but they were up against a very good side on the day and this result pushed Avro up to third in the table.
