Midland Football League
Tipton Town v AFC Wulfrunians
On a bitterly cold afternoon,it was hard luck on a Tipton team in the process of rebuilding,to run into a Wulfrunians side chomping at the bit to add to their recent stunning result against Basford.
Town were first to make their mark but were unable to finish some impressive forward play and were looking far from a side at the wrong end of the league table. They were rocked, however, on 15 minutes when the visitors went ahead and King added a second on 26 minutes.
Half-time ; Tipton 0 AFC Wulfrunians 2
The hosts continued as they left off, trying to take the game to the visitors who were in no mood to give an inch. Unfortunately poor finishing was to let them down time and again.Wulfrunians were looking increasingly menacing on the counter-attack and they added a further two goals in the final 10 minutes through Thompson and Gregg.A bonus feature being the continuing tussle between Thompson and Spittle.
Wulfrunians won the game because they could put the ball in the net, something Town were unable to do. Town certainly don't lack effort and if they can add finishing to their game, they may yet save their place in this league whereas Wulfrunians have shown they can,on their day, beat the best. The only thing they lack is consistency.
A real good game to watch, for the neutral.
