Tividale 3 AFC Wulfrunians 1
🎶🎵 Nobody told me there'd be days like these.....strange days indeed, strange days indeed 🎶🎵sang John Lennon in 1984;strange days indeed for these two stalwarts of West Midlands football.Who would have thought at season start we'd see Tividale and Wulfrunians at the wrong end of the table in October ? Such are the vagaries of grassroots football.
Tividale were on the front foot from the off, chasing, harrying, not giving Wulfrunians a spare second on the ball and it paid off on ⚽19⚽ minutes with a sublime turn and shot which if anything, went slightly against the run of play,Wulfs having had possibly more possession up to that point but without having a direct shot on goal. The reason for their lack of goal efforts was the home defence which in a word was superb. This was a strangely subdued Wulfs where on numerous occasions they would build up a head of steam only for a pass to go astray whereas Dale were playing the more concise game, passes finding their target.⚽10⚽minutes into the second half Dale increased their lead;dithering in Wulfs' defence conceded possession, the keeper saving the resultant shot only to push the ball into the path of the oncoming forward who gratefully accepted. The hosts were improving as the game went on winning nearly everything in midfield and were unlucky when a stunning shot from 30 yards rattled the crossbar but they were not to be denied and on ⚽76⚽ minutes they were rewarded for their efforts with a third goal.Wulfs reduced the arrears straight from the kick-off through ⚽Brady⚽ and had improved considerably following two substitutions. They went looking for more but the home defence held firm for a thoroughly deserved three points. This result could well be the kick-start to Tivis' campaign but will exacerbate things for a Wulfs' side already low on confidence.
