Sporting Khalsa continue their climb to safety.

Sporting Khalsa 3  Atherton Collieries 0

                                                                                                  Played at Guardian Warehousing Arena

Following a recent welcome upturn in fortunes(2 wins in succession),Khalsa were under pressure to continue the run to move out of the relegation places. They were possibly helped by their opponents resting in mid-table safety.

Atherton started at a blistering pace putting their hosts on the back foot, ensconced in their own half for a good 10 minutes, albeit without actually registering any goal threat. Having endured that opening pressure,Khalsa gradually played themselves into the game and it was they, rather than the visitors who looked more likely to score, so it was no real surprise when they took the lead on 27 minutes, Andre Landell taking advantage of a loose ball from a couple of yards out⚽. With the bit between their teeth Khalsa were all over Atherton whose keeper made a superb save to deny a second goal but just a minute later Jay Tilt used his speed to latch onto an 'over the top ' ball and outrun the defender to smash the ball into the far corner⚽. The visitors held their own in midfield but were struggling to match Khalsas' energy in attack and superb defending in numbers.

Following the break, the visitors were much improved, enjoying plenty of possession without threatening to score as the home defenders put up an impenetrable wall and the feeling was if anyone was going to score it was Khalsa who, when they countered, always looked dangerous, hitting the post twice. On 76 minutes the hosts added a third via Jay Tilt⚽ and that was that really, the visitors going through the motions until the ref called time on proceedings.

Khalsa deserved their win for their energetic display which Atherton could never quite match ; a win which takes them out of the bottom 4 as Congleton lost at Chasetown. Next week decides who stays up and who goes down ;all to play for.
