The sad demise of Darlaston Town FC

While we read about the transfer of Bale for silly money, one of the countrys' oldest non-league football clubs quietly passes away with barely a mention anywhere.I would hazard a guess the reason for their folding had quite a bit to do with lack of funds. The trickle-down of cash from the Big Boys has turned to a dried-up river-bed.The Sky millions have done little for the non-league minnows.

Football is not just about Abramovich, the Glaziers or the Dubai squillions. It begins at grass-roots level kicking a ball about in the street or on the park, getting in the school team, playing on a Saturday and Sunday. If Chelsea,Utd and City were to fold I wouldn't miss them.I'll miss Darlaston Town.I'll miss their crappy mud-heap of a pitch.I'll miss their tea in a proper mug.

The last line on their Wikipedia page says, ' The club folded in 2013 ' .

The death-knell of Darlaston Town FC is a sad blow to local football everywhere.
