Brilliant advert for Non-League Football

         West Midlands(Regional)League.Premier Division

                                 Wolverhampton Casuals v Lye Town

If Lye could win this they would be champions.
The game began with both sides eager to make their mark and Casuals were unlucky in the fifth minute when, from a corner, their big shaven-headed defender rose above everyone to smack a header against the post.

The game was pretty even with both teams attacking whenever possible and on the half-hour Casuals front-man Bellingham latched onto a long ball out of defence and banged the ball past the visitors' goalkeeper.

Casuals coped fairly well from then on and more than held their own up to half-time.

Half-time ; Casuals 1 Lye Town 0

Lye were aware they had to go on and win the game to be certain of the title and pressed from the start and after five minutes thought they had drawn level only for the home goalkeeper to pull off a spectacular save.

Although Lye were doing most of the attacking,Casuals still looked dangerous on the counter-attack and the inevitable occurred when substitute Henry scored in the 89th minute.

That goal signalled the end of Lyes' title hopes as news filtered through that AFC Wulfrunians had won their game 2-0 thus making them Champions. It was tough on Lye who have led the league for a greater part of the season but credit to Casuals who were not to be denied on the night and who,on this showing, can improve next season and have a big say in the title race. An excellent game which advertised the quality of WM(R)L football.
