Midland Football Alliance
Tipton Town v Loughborough University
To be honest,I didn't hold out much hope of this match being up to much as there was a howling gale blowing as I arrived at Tipton Sports Academy, so well done to every player for giving us a bloody good game.
League positions indicated this would be a close game but it didn't quite work out that way with the hosts being very much in the ascendancy. The visitors do try to play the Barca way but Tipton were onto and into them from the off. Boros' game plan seemed to be when they didn't have the ball, to play a pressing game but this didn't look to inconvenience the home side at all. When Boro had possession they looked good with their intricate passing, up to the penalty area where they met the home defence who,it has to be said, looked invincible today.
The game took a decided turn around the half-hour mark when Tipton scored twice within a few minutes, the second of these resulting from Boro dithering somewhat around their own area.Just before the break the visitors reduced arrears by way of a penalty.
Half-time ; Tipton 2 Loughborough 1
The home side continued to pose a little more threat than their visitors although Boro had plenty of possession.Their problem seemed to be a lack of cutting edge up front. When they did fashion a shootingchance the home defence were quick to deny them.Tipton certainly posed more threat in front of goal and this was borne out by them adding a further two goals, one of them the result of more dithering in the Boro defence who had obviously not learnt their lesson.Loughborough kept going but never really looked likely to get another goal.
This was probably a fair result as Tipton looked more like a team than their opponents. The visitors had a couple of livewires up front but mention must be given to the hosts' Danny Crudgington who had an outstanding game in midfield.
