West Midland Regional League First Division
Bilston Town Community 1 Malvern Town 2
The visitors started this game like an express train and for a while it seemed a case of not when but 'how many are they going to score' ? Indeed, after only a few minutes,my mate Pete remarked 'they've come here to win' and it was there for all to see;the easy way they knocked the ball about and always someone there to receive, the speed with which they attacked. But;opposing them, the hosts are nothing if not dogged.I've lost count of the number of times I've written the same thing about BTC.There seems to be an inbuilt ethos of 'they shall not pass'.So all the style shown by the visitors was matched in equal measure by the hosts refusal to buckle under enormous pressure and they began to play themselves into the game.Just as it looked like the hosts had 'steadied the ship' Malvern took the lead on 25 minutes with the simplest of tap-ins from a cross from the left. Bilston were let back into the game when the visiting keeper had somewhat of a rush of blood, bundling the forward over and conceding a penalty which was duly despatched by the impressive number 10.The second half saw Malvern up the tempo and they were rewarded with a second goal which was very cleverly headed over the home keeper. Bilston had chances of their own most of which came substitute Pigot.
The win for Malvern was probably a fair reflection of the game as we thought possession was about 65-35 in their favour although credit has to given to Bilston whose motto could read 'when the going get's tough, the tough get going'. All in all, another outstanding WMRL game.
