West Midlands Regional League Premier Division. 29/3/14
Sporting Khalsa v Pegasus Juniors
Sporting Khalsa were
undone by possibly the best team I've seen in this league, this
season. Not too long ago I attended the excellent game here between
Khalsa and Lye Town and I noted then how comfortable SK looked in
this company. Alas, the same cannot be said for the performance today.
To be fair,it has to be
said Pegasus were in almost total control; they were that good. By
comparison the hosts seemed out of sorts as a unit.
SK must have been
wondering what had hit them as the visitors scored inside two
minutes. Hardly had the game restarted when Pegasus scored a second
and it got worse. By the time the referee blew for half-time,the
visitors had stormed into a seemingly unassailable 4-0 lead helped,it
must be said by a generous home defence who for some inexplicable
reason appeared totally disorganised. Neither side was helped much by
a brisk wind but Pegasus looked to be coping with it better than
their opponents.

Within ten minutes of
the restart the visitors were awarded a penalty which was duly
despatched. The referee was kept busy issuing a number of yellow
cards(I stopped counting at seven) but it was never a dirty game, just
occasionally 'niggly'. Following a couple of substitutions the home
side upped their game, rallied and saw a lot more of the ball but the
impressive Pegasus defence was in no mood to yield. Indeed, they not
only looked like Arsenal, the defence was playing like them ! There
was always a leg, boot, shin or head in the way of anything played by
Khalsa. Such was the visitors' defensive dominance,I cannot remember their
goalkeeper having to make a serious save.
Sporting Khalsa are
better, much better than this. Pegasus Juniors really could not have
looked much better. They're a very good side and I for one think the
chase for the title is far from a foregone conclusion.
Our MOTM was the
visitors No 9(who was substituted late in the game) who caused no end
of problems in the home defence.
