Bad news and good news this week. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. There is no Proper Football report this week. The Good news is that Mick and I are still friends after our journey to the dizzy heights of the Third Division to watch Shrewsbury take on the once mighty Wolves. We arrived at the New Meadow, for that is what it is despite the Corporate desire to change it’s name, to watch our teams of yesteryear. Well it had to be done.

To be fair it wasn't a bad game. Both sides making the effort with Shrews probably having the best of the play in the first half although both keepers had work to do to keep the sheets clean at half time.
It became much more even in the second half with a Shrewsbury player managing to clear the bar from the centre of the goal and two yards out. A remarkable feat. They paid the price when, with less than five minutes to go, the referee made his big decision and awarded a penalty to Wolves and the sending off of a Shrews player although how he managed to see a handball through the crowd of players, even if it was handball, we will find out later when we watch the TV replay. The penalty was duly scored and the game finished with a Wolves victory by the only goal of the game. We thought it a bit harsh [actually I thought we wuz robbed] and a draw would have probably been the fairest result.
We left the New Meadow, not exactly arm in arm, coz we am blokes ay we, but plotting a return to Proper Football and the FA Cup next week.
