Halesowen Town v Tipton Town
Tipton were taken to the cleaners by their EVO-STIK NPL Div 1 opponents in this FA Cup tie. The home side were into the visitors from the off, not giving them a second on the ball and were unlucky on a couple of occasions as the ball pinged around the area and went anywhere but into the net. Ex Tipton player Tonks was unlucky with a nicely flighted shot that hit the bottom of the post and rolled along the goal-line. He was not so lucky two minutes later when given a yellow card. A goal for the home side seemed a formality and it duly came on twenty minutes, followed by another before half-time. The visitors had seemed strangely subdued in the first-half and on 55 minutes Halesowen put the icing on their cake with a third goal. Following substitutions by manager Ian Rowe, the visitors threw caution to the wind in their search for a goal and had one or two chances but they hadn't brought their shooting boots. This opened them up to the inevitable counter-attack from the hosts who cashed in with two more. Indeed, the score could have been more embarrassing but for visiting goalkeeper Martin.
Halesowen were good and showed their opponents what they should be aspiring to but it has to be said, Tipton were caught on a bad day at the office. They can and will do a lot better.
