Wulfs pipped at the post.

Heath Hayes FC v AFC Wulfrunians.
                                Midland Football Alliance
This game had everything. It is games like this that convince me non-league football beats the 'pro-game' hands down. I don't know if any of these players receive payment, nor do I care. I would guess most had done a days' work before making their way to the outskirts of Cannock. Then, to put everything they've got into a game like this shows tremendous strength and commitment to their clubs. Fair play to all involved.

From the start HH were all over Wulfs like a cheap tee-shirt and their efforts were rewarded with a goal in the tenth minute. This seemed to rouse the visitors from their torpor and they too got their just desserts with an equaliser in the 25th minute. Both teams were playing  nice football, the home side possibly just shading the first half.

Half-time ; Heath Hayes 1 AFC Wulfrunians 1

Wulfs seemed to take control early in the second half with HH limited to the occasional attack and it was no real surprise when the visitors took the lead through a quality goal from Rose-Laing, receiving the ball from a free-kick, turning his man and sweetly dispatching the ball under the 'keeper. They should have then put the game to bed with at least three good chances spurned, mainly because of the home goalie.

With the minutes ticking away, Wulfs played 'keep-ball but Hayes were not to be denied. With a show of tremendous guts, they pressured the visitors and equalised with minutes left. And that was that.......or so we thought. In injury-time the hosts won a free-kick from which they scored the winner. Within two minutes the ref' blew for time.

A brilliant game from two committed sides. A joy to watch.
